Editorial Ageing

The journal was well received as judged by the number of the comments and the number of papers we received from all over the world. The editorial board and the production team would like to thank all who send their support and congratulation.

The second issues has an interesting mix of papers from different part of the world which reveals the importance of the aging issues. Dr Rikkert ,and Dekkers from the Netherlands in their paper discussed the dilemma's
in geriatrics whether or not to apply treatments with the maximum benefits.

A research paper from Al Ain University in Collaboration with Australia report on study determine if blood RNA concentrations are altered in people with Alzheimer disease [AD] or vascular dementia [VaD]. The authors studied 31 people aged 60+ years. They concluded that as total blood RNA concentrations were lower in those with AD or VAD in this population based sample, further studies may be needed to ascertain the significance of this preliminary finding.

The study by Dr Nourmohammadi I, et al explore the role of serum zinc and copper concentartion in age related cataract. The authors conclude that in spite of the relatively small sample population, the findings suggest some thought-provoking questions, considering that there has been a good amount of controversy regarding the status of these trace elements and their possible role in senile cataractogenesis suggesting the need for further studies.

The study from the UK on feasibility of the Divided Attention Steering Simulator (DASS) for the Assessment of Vigilance in Stroke Patients. The purpose of this study was to test the feasibility and acceptability of the Divided Attention Steering Simulator (DASS), a computer simulated driving task for the assessment of vigilance, in an unselected group of stroke patients. The authors concluded that The DASS could be performed by the majority of stroke patients, including subjects with dysphasia and hemianopia/hemi-inattention.

A study on home health care is reported from Saudia Arabia by Jastaniah N et al. In this study the authors showed that Home health care at King Khaled National Guard in Jeddah is covering different age groups with a variety of diagnosis. The most common one was CVA. Some patients have more than one diagnosis, and have some complex medical and social condition, that needed more than one service. The hospital readmission's, clinic visits, and emergency visits were lower in HHC patients than non-HHC however this difference was not statistically significant.

A stimulating review on the diagnosis and management of dementia by Clark DG, and Cummings JL , presented the diagnostics criteria for dementia and the available management for this distressing condition. Dr Diaa R et al from Al Ain University reviewed an important topic on the problems associated with menopause stressing the Deterioration of pelvic support and urinary and faecal control in women that occurs.

At the end I would like to thank the editorial board and the production team and all supporter for their support and help in making this journal a unique and successful. We look forward for further development and improvement in the coming year. In the coming year we are planning on three issues in April, August and December so happy new year for all.
