Chief editor

This is the last issue for this year. I would like to thank the editorial board and the production team in being supportive of this important journal. The journal is growing gradually and we are planning to keep the same pace for 2006 that is one issue every four months, however the format and style will be changed.

Professor Thyagarajan reviewed Parkinsons disease and related movement disorders. In this article he reviewed the history, pathology, aetiology, classification, clinical diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson's disease and its imitators.

In a well structured paper from Turkey the authors analysed the increased leukocyte rigidity in the elderly. They analysed leukocyte deformability and its relation to age and plasma lipids, albumin and gammaglobulin levels in a study group involving 21, and a control group involving 20 healthy individuals. In the study group, leukocyte rigidity was significantly higher than controls. Also, they detected a moderate positive correlation between age and leukocyte rigidity. The authors conclude that leukocyte rigidity increases with aging. In conclusion the authors suggest that altered leukocyte deformability may participate in the pathogenesis of immunosenescence.

A study from Iran discussed the relationship between knowledge, attitude and practice of the elderly and their general health in Tehran. The population studied in this research was the elderly in the city of Tehran. The author showed that the respondents emphasized that both traditional and modern ways of treatment can help improve the health of the elderly. This issue also has the usual columns and educational features.
